Struggling with awkward conversations at holiday gatherings? A simple deck of cards might be the solution! In this video, I share how to play Pass the Ace, a quick and fun card game that’s perfect for breaking the ice.
A deck of cards and at least three players (but the more, the merrier!) and 3 tokens for each player.
Avoid being the person left holding the lowest card at the end of each round. Ace is lowest for this game.
1. Deal one card to each player face down.
2. Players look at their card but don’t show them to others.
3. Starting with the player to the dealer’s left, each player decides whether to keep their card or trade it with the player to their left.
4. If someone has a king, they can flip it over immediately. The players on either side of the King card are frozen and cannot trade but others can trade with them.
5. The dealer has the option to trade with the top card of the deck if they want.
6. Once everyone has traded or kept their cards, players reveal their cards. The person with the lowest card loses that round and add a token to the middle of the table.
7. You can play multiple rounds until there is only one person left with a token and they are declared the winner.
It’s simple enough for kids to join, but still fun for adults.
It’s quick, so people stay engaged without losing interest.
It creates natural moments for laughter, teasing, and lighthearted competition
